She posted an emotional video on her story just hours before her tragic death. It cites, “I’m fine, despite the fact that I appear to be a shambles. It’s due to the fact that I’ve been crying. It’s a heartfelt cry. I’ve just arrived in Taos, New Mexico. And I’ll be performing at a festival here called Big Barne Dance.
But, for those who don’t know, I’ve spent the last 20 years of my life visiting Taos with my father and sister. My grandparents lived here, and my uncle still does. But, in essence, everyone who was present has died, with the exception of my uncle and my father.
Driving these roads today, I’ve been driving for almost 12 hours and you’d think it would be exhausting and boring, but the last couple of hours driving through the mountains was like remembering my place in the backseat as a little kid when my dad made these trips.
It was the f*cking best. Then I became depressed. There was this time, it’s something my dad and sister always talked about, when I was in the back seat asleep, about 10 or 12 years old, and we hit something really hard.
‘What was that?’ I asked, and my father replied, ‘Cattle guard.’ But, in reality, he collided with a cow. I know that sounds depressing, but just the fact that… I was driving through the mountains, crying and sad when these cows appeared out of nowhere. But we all grieve in different ways, and… I’m not sure.”
She stated on Twitter the day before her death that she had been contacted by an ABC producer for a reality dating show about singer/songwriters.
